At Colour Mark Labels (Pvt) Ltd, sustainability is more than a corporate responsibility, it’s an operational imperative embedded in every facet of our business. As a manufacturer of apparel identification products and packaging solutions, we are committed to aligning our processes with globally recognized environmental standards, while adapting solutions that are relevant to our local Sri Lankan context.
Compliance and Certification
Our production processes are certified under the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 – Class I, ensuring that every component used in our products, including threads, dyes, and base materials is rigorously tested for harmful substances and certified as safe for human use, including infants. The OEKO-TEX® certification supports our objective to eliminate hazardous chemicals from our supply chain and maintain full compliance with international Restricted Substances Lists (RSLs) and the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) framework.
Localized Sustainability Practices in Sri Lanka
As a Sri Lankan company, we recognize the unique environmental and socio-economic challenges faced by our region. Our sustainability strategy includes:
- Sourcing Locally and Responsibly: We prioritize suppliers who offer recycled or sustainably produced raw materials from within Sri Lanka to reduce carbon emissions associated with international logistics.
- Water Conservation: Considering the vulnerability of Sri Lanka’s water resources, we implement closed-loop systems and low-water-consumption printing technologies to reduce waste and safeguard freshwater access.
- Energy Efficiency: Our facilities utilize energy-efficient machinery and lighting systems, and we are actively exploring integration of solar energy to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
- Community Engagement: We partner with local NGOs and schools to raise awareness about environmental conservation, support coastal clean-up drives, and promote sustainable living in communities affected by industrial pollution.
Combating Ocean Pollution and Plastic Waste
Sri Lanka, being an island nation, is directly impacted by the global marine plastic crisis. The accumulation of single-use plastics and microplastics in the ocean threatens marine biodiversity, damages coral reef ecosystems, and jeopardizes fishing-dependent coastal economies.
To actively combat this, Colour Mark Labels implements the following:
- Recycled Material Integration: We manufacture hangers, tapes, and packaging using recycled ocean-bound plastics, helping to intercept waste before it enters marine environments.
- Plastic Reduction Goals: We are working toward reducing single-use plastic across our supply chain and replacing them with biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable alternatives.
- Product Design for Circularity: We design products with disassembly and recyclability in mind, ensuring end-of-life material recovery and reusability wherever possible.
- Awareness and Advocacy: We support marine conservation awareness initiatives, both within the apparel industry and in collaboration with Sri Lankan environmental organizations.
Governance and Continuous Improvement
Our Sustainability Policy is reviewed annually and governed by a dedicated compliance team. We follow the principles of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and circular economy, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).
